Capitalism Makes for a Terrible Religion - Unisex T-shirt
Read what it says. Now, read it again.
Join me in a little experiment. Notice the knee-jerk responses this sentiment gets. We’re all quick to defend our gods, yes? Invite* someone to read the text again WITHOUT additional commentary. Even if someone is very, very pro-capitalism and every single element about it, even they on some level would have to concede that it, indeed, makes for a terrible religion.
Worshipping money doesn’t tend to go well. In fact, world religions tend to discourage it. That’s the thing though. So much supposed religion or even patriotism is often unfortunately just…repackaged capitalism, often in its most destructive form. You could just as easily replace “capitalism” with “patriarchy” or “power” to the same effect…but still none of those things is worthwhile as dogma.
*Obviously only invite that if they’re engaging in good faith because sometimes people just want to argue for arguments’ sake, and you don’t need that. However, even if someone wants to argue about some sort of irony in purchasing a shirt that makes a comment on capitalism, maybe one can’t really put a price on being able to use very few words to make a point with one's overly antagonistic Uncle Bob at Thanksgiving. It’s just a shirt, man.
